Graduate Research Opportunities

The Sadoulet group at Berkeley offers exciting research opportunities at the forefront of particle astrophysics. CDMS is a highly visible experiment in its most important and revealing phase, and research and development efforts for future experiments are underway. Our work incorporates a wide variety of topics:

  • particle astrophysics and cosmology
  • solid state physics
  • state-of-the-art superconductor technology
  • cryogenics at millikelvin temperatures
  • low-background and low-noise techniques

In recent times our group has been involved in many aspects of the CDMS experiment including detector characterization, data analysis, and commissioning of the underground installation at Soudan. We have also investigated the theoretical implications of our experiments for supersymmetric dark matter models. We are now engaged in developing the next generation of dark matter detectors based on transition-edge sensors and kinetic inductance technology.
